Have you walked or cycled near Spike Island recently?

Usually a peaceful haven for angling, wildlife and boating, the canal is now virtually empty and is posing a great risk to local wildlife as well as loss of amenity of this historic landscape. MCS understands this is due to the ending of an informal pumping agreement with the now decommissioned Fiddler’s Ferry Power station with Halton Council lacking the funds to keep the canal in water. Local MP Derek Twigg has met with stakeholders to try to resolve this and has issued this statement.
