Resources, Governance and Membership Roles

Membership Secretary (Administrative Officer) – appointed annually

  • Work with and report to  the Resources, Governance and Membership sub group to develop and implement the Society’s Membership scheme
  • Handle all membership enquiries and ensure new members are welcomed to the society and entered on our Mailchimp database
  • Maintain effective Membership records and work with the treasurer to encourage more donations and Gift Aid
  • Liaise with the Community Group Co-ordinator on the recruitment of new Community Groups
  • Encourage more organisations to become Strategic Partners of the Society

Community Group Coordinator (Administrative Officer) – appointed annually

  • Liaise with existing Community Group members to ensure they are effectively represented by MCS
  • Work with the Membership Secretary to recruit new Community Group members

Awards Co-ordinator (Administrative Officer) – appointed annually

  • Help organise MCS awards schemes including handling entries, arranging judging, organising certificates and presentation events
  • Attend meetings of the Awards and Plaques Group
  • Report to the Resources, Governance and Membership Group

 Heritage Plaques Co-ordinator (Administrative Officer) – appointed annually

  •  Respond to enquiries about heritage plaques and give advice to those wanting to erect a plaque
  • Attend meeting of the Awards and Plaques Group and help shape MCS thinking about a possible MCS plaques scheme
  • Report to the Resources, Governance and Membership Group

Minutes Secretary (Administrative Officer) – appointed annually

  • Assisting the Secretary with the Council meetings (4 x year) of the Society, preparing agendas, taking and distributing minutes of meetings
  • Report to the Resources, Governance and Membership Group

Hon. Auditor (Independent Auditor of Accounts) – appointed annually

  • Liaise with Treasurer re preparation of financial papers for annual audit of accounts (calendar year)
  • Conduct annual inspection of accounts in time for MCS Annual General meeting mid-November
  • Make any recommendation to the Council regarding the financial position of the Society

Communications and Events Roles

Sub Group Chair: Communications and Events (Appointed Officer) -Reports to MCS Chair

  • Leading the work of the Communications and Events Group
  • Providing strategic direction for the Society’s brand, marketing, public relations and information systems
  • Coordinating the design and operation of the Society’s website and social media
  • Facilitating the Society’s public relations, information provision, and, press and media contacts.

Events Officer (Administrative Officer) – appointed annually (Reports to Chair: Communications and Events Group)

  • Co-ordinating a rolling annual programme of meetings and other Society events with specific events organisers through the Events Team
  • Maintaining contact with organisers as the programme progresses and advising on alternative options if an event is delayed or unable to go ahead for some reason
  • Liaising with the Chair and Chair of Communications on arrangements for meetings and other events and with the Chair and Secretary on arrangements for the AGM
  • Encouraging and supporting members of the Council and the wider Society in becoming involved in organising a range of events as team members

Marketing & Social Media Executive (Administrative Officer) – appointed annually. Reports to Chair, Communications & Events Group

  • Monitor and update the MCS website – https://www.merseysidecivicsociety.org working with our design agency Nonconform – full training will be given
  • Take responsibility for our social media platforms and ensure our news and events are promoted through those channels
  • Investigate and recommend new social media channels appropriate for MCS

Newsletter Editor (Administrative Officer) – appointed annually – Reports to Chair: Communications and Events Group

  • Refresh enewsletter in consultation with our Design Agency Nonconform
  • Develop concept for new enewsletter and including frequency and content
  • Source, co-ordinate and write articles for the newsletter
  • Keep abreast of developments in the City Region of interest to our members

Planning, Campaigns and Policy Roles

Sub Group Chair: Planning, Campaigns and Policy (Appointed Officer)  (Reports to MCS Chair)

  • Leading the work of the Planning, Campaigns and Policy Sub Group
  • Coordinating the preparation and distribution of Green and White papers and other policy or discussion papers
  • Coordinating MCS contributions to city region, local planning  and related strategic policies (e.g. transportation, green space and environment, etc.)
  • Leading on the Society’s campaigns
  • Maintaining liaison with other related agencies, societies and stakeholders

Planning Consultation Officer (Administrative Officer) – appointed annually (Reports to Sub Group Chair: Planning, Campaigns, and Policy)

  • Coordinating the work of the Planning Review Team in assessing and commenting on planning applications, including liaising with the Chair, Secretary and Chair of Communications on specific written comments
  • Arranging for the monitoring of planning application registers, committee meeting agendas, news reports of development proposals to identify items of concern, including maintaining links with related specialist advisers e.g., heritage
  • Responding to items of concern on planning and development proposals identified by the Council, the Society’s wider membership or brought to MCS by others
  • Oversee the Society’s campaigns such as ‘Save the Piazza  Fountain and ‘The Liverpool& Manchester Railway bicentenary’.
  • Encouraging and supporting members of the Council and the wider Society in becoming involved in the work of the PCP
