Sefton Council has welcomed the Government’s announcement confirming full funding for the restoration of Southport Pier — a historic and much-loved landmark that has stood proudly on the town’s coastline since 1860.

The funding, expected to total around £20 million, will enable urgent repair and refurbishment works to begin on the Victorian structure, which has been closed since December 2022 due to safety concerns. The restoration is expected to take 12 to 14 months to complete, with work expected to start in 2026.
