About Alder Hey in the Park
We are delighted to invite you to a special study tour of the 2016 Civic Voice Design Awards overall winner, Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool. The tour offers the chance to hear from the people who led this inspiring project and explore how great design can bring real benefit to people.

A hospital built entirely in a park is something new in the treatment and care of children. It’s not just a first for the UK, there’s nothing like it anywhere in Europe. Alder Hey embraced user-led design in its development by listening carefully to staff, children and thousands of families who took part in one of the NHS's biggest-ever public consultations. Many suggestions, such as better access to fresh air and nature, influenced the plans, and it was a drawing by a 15-year- old that impressed the architects and inspired their final design.
About this study tour

Civic Voice, the national charity for the civic movement, is offering a series of study tours hosted by Civic Voice Design Award winning schemes. We are also partnering with national charity The Glass-House Community Led Design, whose Chief Executive is one of our Design Awards judges, to help participants explore their relationship with the design of the places and spaces around us.
This is your chance to see Alder Hey in the Park first hand, attend the unveiling ceremony of the winning plaque and also hear the shortlist for this year's Civic Voice Design Awards announced.

At this study tour you will:
• hear from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital representatives, the architects who designed the hospital and from local community representatives who participated in its development about the challenges and successes of the scheme.
• take a tour of the hospital and learn how ideas evolved to produce this inspiring building design.
• attend a workshop session to explore your response to the hospital’s design and how you could get involved in the collaborative planning approach in your own community – and maybe win an award!
